I made up a swatch square to see how the mercerized cotton yarn would look and feel. While crocheting, it felt a bit like hooking string, but softer. It is a larger gauge than the crochet “thread” that is normally used for doilies or snowflakes. The suggested hook size was F/5, but I used a G/6 as I tend to crochet a little too tightly. Here it is in green next to the square I made the other day out of “regular” cotton yarn.
The stitches are so much smaller than with a worsted-weight craft cotton. I love how different fibers can give you such different looks even when doing a simple single crochet. I have a feeling there will be a larger purchase of this mercerized cotton in my future.
