It may be odd, but I have some food stuff that is designated for crafting.  I have crafting rice to stuff heating pads.  I have cheap-o bottom shelf crafting vodka for making liqueurs and extracts and I have crafting sugar.

sugar scrub

I came across a mostly empty bag of crafting sugar yesterday when I was looking for something else.  It was starting to get lumpy so I decided it needed to be put to use before it became a solid object. I buy coarse, raw sugar to use for crafting, usually at a farm stand where the prices are less than half as what you find in the market.  This works really well for making home made sugar scrubs.

The simplest formula for this is 2 parts sugar, one part oil. You can also add a few drops of essential oil.  When I make this for gifts, I use a mildly scented oil like grapeseed or safflower so the scent from the essential oil shines through. Making this for my own use now, I just used olive oil.   In the past, I’ve used grapefruit scent for a “Good morning” scrub, but you could use peppermint, lavender, vanilla, or a mix. Really, any scent that makes you happy will do. I put this in a glass jelly jar we had around the house, but we also don’t have any kids who could make the combination of glass and shower tile dangerous.

I’ve mixed large batches in a bowl when I was making gifts, but for this I just put both ingredients into the jar, stirred it, and put the lid on it.

I just looked on the Bath and Bodyworks website, and a 13 oz. container of their scrub was $16.00, so now I feel thrifty as well.
